Is Weleda Skin Food Light good for oily skin?

Is Weleda Skin Food Light good for oily skin?

Weleda Skin Food Light is the lighter version of the original cult favourite moisturiser Weleda Skin Food.

What is Weleda Skin Food Light?

Weleda’s skin food originally gained popularity for its blend of natural and organic ingredients, intensive moisturisation, and it’s multi-purpose versatility. Since it’s introduction in 1926, skin food has gained widespread popularity including celebrities and professional make-up artists.

The original Weleda Skin food is a rich moisturiser which isn’t ideal for oily or combination skin types as it can feel heavy on the skin. To solve this problem, Skin Food Light was created, tailored for those with oilier or combination skin, ensuring the same moisturising experience but in a much lighter formulation.

Can I use Weleda skin food light on my oily skin?

Yes, Weleda skin food light is more suited to oily and combination skin types compared to the original Weleda skin food. Skin food light has a much lighter texture and formulation compared to the original skin food formula.

However, if your skin is prone to breakouts and acne, then we recommend using a moisturiser more suitable to this sensitivity, we explain why in this blog.

Benefits of Weleda skin food light for oily skin:

Balanced hydration:

Hydration is essential even for oily skin types because when the skin lacks moisture, it begins to overproduce oil to make up for it. Weleda Skin Food Light provides the perfect balance by providing essential moisture to oily and combination skin without the thickness often associated with traditional creams.

Quick absorption:

Weleda skin food light has a lotion texture which is fast absorbed by the skin, making it ideal for oily and combination skin types as it provides hydration without leaving residue and excess oil.

Soothing Properties:

Plant-based ingredients like wild pansy, chamomile, and calendula in Weleda Skin Food Light have soothing properties that can help calm and balance oily skin, addressing both excess oil production and inflammation-related breakouts often associated with oily skin.

Reasons to avoid Weleda skin food light for blemish-prone skin:

Although Weleda skin food light can be suited to oily skin types, we do no recommend using it on acne-prone skin, which can often be associated with oily skin types. Here are our reasons why:

Contains fragrance:

Fragrances, even if they are from natural essential oils, can sometimes cause irritation for sensitive skin types. If you have particularly sensitive or reactive skin prone to breakouts, it might be worth considering a moisturiser without fragrance.

Rich ingredients:

Both cocoa seed butter and shea butter are rich and can sometimes be too heavy for acne-prone skin, causing clogged pores and breakouts. Weleda skin food light is not certified as non-comedogenic which is generally not recommended for reactive skin.

Contains oils:

Skin Food contains sunflower seed oil which is generally light, however some individuals with very oily or acne-prone skin may find it slightly too occlusive. If the skin already produces excess oil, adding more oil may feel heavy or lead to congestion.

Is it the best moisturiser for oily and combination skin types?

Although Weleda skin food light was created to cater to all skin types including oily and combination skin, it is not specifically certified as non-comedogenic. Therefore, while it offers balanced hydration and quick absorption, individuals with blemish-prone or acne-prone skin may want to explore other moisturisers tailored to their specific needs.

Opting for a moisturiser specifically designed for acne-prone skin may be more appropriate. Such formulations are often fragrance-free, lightweight, and formulated with ingredients known to be less likely to clog pores, which can be crucial for those with sensitive or reactive skin prone to breakouts.

What supplements should I take daily?

If you follow a well-balanced and healthy diet, every day, your body should be getting the right amount of nutrients it needs. However, ensuring you have the right amounts of each nutrient, across vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids and more, is difficult to track. And that's before you consider any restrictions, such as if you have allergies to certain foods or are following a vegan diet.

You should speak to your GP if you think you need to take daily supplements, as they can advise what you might need based on your eating habits and lifestyle. As a starting point, you can find the recommended daily amounts of vitamins and minerals in our glossaries:

Do supplements really work?

Yes, supplements really work. They supply your body with the vitamins, minerals and/or other nutrients in doses that can be absorbed by your body. It's hard to define how necessary supplements are as it will depend on your eating habits and lifestyle. However, in general, Western society has moved away from the kinds of nutritionally balanced diets that would allow us to get all the nutrients we require – hence people consider supplementation. There are times when supplements are considered a necessity, such as during pregnancy when pregnancy supplements are NHS recommended regardless of how balanced the pregnant person's diet is.

What supplements should men and women take daily?

There are some vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are recommended for everyone to take and there are some that are needed in different amounts, typically, for men and women. This is why we have supplements for women and supplements for men that are sold separately – it's not just a marketing choice. If you aren't sure what daily supplements you should take, then speak to your GP and get their advice.
